Proxy Access

Most corporate networks connect to the internet via an intermediate machine called a proxy server. If you are planning to use NotamView in such an environment, you will need to do a bit of extra configuration before it will work. The default configuration is for no proxy support.

What you need to know

There are a number of types of proxy. The type you encounter will determine what configuration is required and whether NotamView will work.

No proxy

You can stop reading now. No configuration is needed
If you need to return a configuration to the 'no proxy' state, simply un-check the Proxy Enable box in the Options dialogue

Transparent proxy

This form of proxy is invisible to the applications that use it. As above, this requires no further configuration.

Normal Proxy - no Authentication

You need to find the IP address or name of the proxy machine and the port number on which it resides. This will typically be port 8080 but may also be port 80 or any of a number of other ports. You can often find this information in the configuration of your browser. Enter these values in the boxes in the Options dialogue and make sure the proxy tick box is selected.
With no authentication needed, you should now be able to use NotamView.

Normal Proxy - Basic Authentication

Configuration is exactly the same as for the 'no Authentication' case above. However more information is required to authenticate to the proxy. Tick the authentication box and enter the username and password for your proxy in the boxes. When you try to download a notam you will be automatically authenticated to the proxy using the information you have entered. If the proxy is unhappy with either username or password you will be prompted to change them.

Other Proxies

If your company uses a proxy that uses NT security for proxy access, or if the proxy expects an encrypted set of credentials, NotamView is unlikely to work. Sorry.
