The Map panel is the first of the three tabbed panes on the right side of the program. It displays the notams over a map of the UK.
The map panel is initialised to display the Home Site at its centre. The scale of the map is given by a ruler at the top left of the display. At the bottom of the map is a status line which displays information.
The map shows a number of features in addition to the Notam shapes. The coastline in drawn in blue. This can be high or low resolution depending on the user's preference. The high resolution map requires a faster machine to redraw quickly. The user can optionally select a number of other features permanently through the map options screen or temporarily through the map menu. These include:
Note that airspace whose boundary follows coastline are not drawn perfectly. The coastline section is usually
only approximate.
When the program had obtained Notam data and processed it, each entry is drawn onto the visible map in red if it
conforms to the validity period and is drawable. If the user has chosen to display circles of influence, these will be drawn in yellow.
Notam entries can be drawn as:
Each entry may be selected by left clicking the mouse close to it. For circles, the selection point is the
centre of the circle. If there is more than one circle drawn for an entry, selecting any will select all.
For areas, the selection point is roughly the centre of the shape. Again, selection of one shape will select
all shapes that make up the Notam entry.
A selected item will turn green. If the selected entry has a displayed circle of influence, this will turn orange.
When an item is selected, a full description will appear in the display box below the
Tree View. If more than
one Notam entry is centred on the same point then a description of each will appear in this window.
Note that the element selected in the tree itself does not change when an area is selected on the map.
