This panel sets preferences regarding the data used in the program and how it is handled.
The program is currently supplied with two sets of map data.
The low resolution map of the UK mainland is drawn from the coastline data included in the airspace data file.
This is not very detailed but may draw faster on a slow machine leading to quicker updates while zooming.
The high resolution map is a separate file derived from USGS data and includes the entire UK. Because of its
detail, it takes longer to draw.
By default the high resolution map is used, but this can be changed here.
Selecting the Turnpoints tick box causes the turnpoints to be drawn to the screen as grey crosses with the turnpoint identifier alongside. To avoid clutter, the turnpoint identifier is only drawn to the map when the zoom level gives sufficient spacing.
The two buttons below the Turnpoints tick box select whether the displayed turnpoint text is the short code or the long turnpoint name.
The checkboxes in this section determine what airspace, if any, will be displayed on the map by default. Note that this can be overridden by selecting or de-selecting items from the map menu. The airspace is derived from the file alluk.air which was part of the SUA package from Specialist Systems and obtainable from here. Later versions of this package may not include the alluk file however, simply combining all the individual files in the package (except user.air) using a text editor such as notepad will have the save result. An up to date version will usually be available on the NotamView website.
The airspace file is specified in Tim Newport-Peace format.
It should be noted that the airspace data is incomplete and is only provided as a guide. Always consult an up-to-date map for current airspace.
Airways cannot currently be displayed.
