The Tree View

The tree view provides a simple mechanism for navigating the notam data. When the program gets notam data from the internet or a file, it creates a new branch of the tree for each Flight Information Region. Each FIR is identified by its ICAO identifier e.g. EGTT for London. Under this it creates branches for each type of notam entry - AGA, COM, RAC, NAVW and OTH. The notam entries are then filed under the appropriate heading.

The Tree View

Each notam entry is identified by its identification code and an icon. If the icon is grey, the notam is not active during the selected period of validity. If the icon is a green tick then the notam is active and has been successfully drawn on the map. If the icon is a red cross then the notam is active but NotamView was unable to determine how to draw it on the map. These should always be checked carefully

Selecting a notam entry on the tree does two things:

Firstly, the text of the entry is displayed in the window below the tree. This is the text from the raw notam data. While the actual text is unchanged, the formatting of the data may have altered. This can affect the way tabular data is shown so, if there is any doubt, the raw notam panel behind the map should be consulted.

Secondly, if the notam can be drawn on the map then it will be redrawn in green. This occurs even if the notam is not active.

In the case shown, NAVW H4024/05 has been selected and found to be a Parachute Drop. The text of the notam is displayed below the tree.
Note that, in this case, the NOTAM text includes a coordinate and radius for the activity so NotamView has drawn the appropriate circle on the map and highlighted it to make it visible. The user also has the option of displaying the Circle of Influence derived from the Q-Line.
