Limitations

This program is designed to display all notams with embedded coordinates in the correct form however there are a number of reasons why this may not always be the case.

The first and main reason is that the notams are not written in a consistant form. This makes it very difficult for a program like NotamView to parse the text into a meaningful pattern. For example, distances may be expressed in NM, NMS or KM. The radius (RAD or RADIUS) of a circle may occur before or after its centre. The number of spaces between coordinates can differ, even within the same notam. Arcs may go TO a point or not. And so on...

The second reason is that the people who enter the notam data make mistakes. This is much easier for a human to spot and correct than a machine. For instance, The ommision of an E or W from a coordinates Easting or Westing makes it almost impossible for a program to determine the correct location of a point.

The data from which NotamView compiles its picture is only as up-to-date as the last download. However, now that NotamView obtains its data from the EAD database, each download will be correct and complete at that time.
